. The Olympic game

The Olympic games are the greatest festival of sports in the world.
Now adays the games take place every four years in a different country.But in the past it was different .The firs games were in Greece to Olympia which was a small village in the north of the country.All the people who took part were Greek.
First of all they had agreat dinner and then each sports man promised that he would not cheat.There were horse races and chariot races_achariot was a small cart pulled by horses.There were also running races like the one hundred and two hundred metres,and also the ((Marathon)) which was more than 40 kilometres long.But the most popular sport was the ((Pentathlon)).This word comes from the Greek language and means((Five)).
There were five soprts in the ((Pentathlon))and the winner was the man who was best at all five sports.The five sports were: the long jump,throwing the discus,throwing the javelin,wrestling and boxing.In the long jump the winner was the man who jumped the longest distance, usually about six metres . In throwing the discus the athlete had to throw around plate of metal as far as he could .The javeline was two metres throw the other one to the ground .Boxing was like modern boxing.But boxers didn't wear protective clothing on their heads ,or thick gloves on their hands.
